The version of tcpip supplied with this disk is for a single drive Amiga.
Unfortunatly it takes over 500k to run the tcpip program.
The Program works fine with one meg and one or two disk drives.
If you wish to use 2 drives put the program disk in DF0: and Format and
name the other disk Public. This will be your public directory (The
directory which you let the public i.e. anyone into). On my system i have
Public(DF1:) with the directory BBS the first directory on the public disk.
This way i can put Any Programs and files in BBS and following directories
and they can be accessed by BOTH tcpip users and any AX25 users who are in
the mailbox. If you want to have a private directory for other Amiga users
or for tcpip users you can make the private directory the first on the
Public disk.
In a normal ftpusers list the entries would look like this......
G4HIX * Public:BBS 59 (This will put G4HIX strait into the BBS directory
as well as any following directories in the Path).
G1VTM * Public: 59 (This will put G1VTM into the public Disk and he can
access any directory on the disk). If you put a private directory as the
first in the path. i.e. Public:/private/BBS g1vtm will be able to go
into this directory but G4HIX can only go to the BBS and after.
G1VTM can move about simply by using the CD command as in CLI.
The File DOMAIN.TXT can be created from the hosts.net file by running the
program NET2NOS which takes the Hosts.net file and turns it into Domain.txt
file. If you put Net2Nos and Domain.txt into ram: and simply type....
NET2NOS Hosts.net Domain.txt
The Completed file is found in the Ram: directory.
The Domain.txt file needs the folowing added to it so that the program can
run properly as it is set up.
QST. IN A 44.131.0.0.
GBR. IN PTR g4hix. (your own call replaces g4hix)
GBR. IN PTR g4hix.
NW. IN PTR g4hix.
EU. IN PTR g4hix.
WWW. IN PTR g4hix.
A word about the Hosts.Net file ......................
The Hosts.Net file on the disk is for the whole of the country, in order to
make the program run a little faster it pays to make a copy of the file and
edit out the areas which you cannot hear.
You should then put your local area in the front of the list. Now when your
progam is looking for a local station it will come to these first as they
are at the top of the file.
When you have made up your local hosts.net you can then rename the Country
wide list (Hosts.bac) or any other name will do and use the local one.
A local Domain.txt will also help with quicker execution of the program.
AREAS......
If you wish anyone using your mailbox to go into special areas you have to
put directory for it on the disk and also make a file and put it in the
SPOOL/Mail directory.
example.
Directoy on disk AmigaFiles
File in SPOOL/MAIL AmigaFiles.txt
If you wish anyone to leave mail on your box you must also put a file in
the SPOOL/MAIL directory i.e. For Myself you would need to put G4HIX.TXT
in your SPOOL/MAIL directory. This also is the place you put any messages
that you wish to send to the above station.(This is for ax25 connects not
for SMTP users.).
Telneting......
This version of tcpip seems to have one shortcoming in that there is no
way you can go into another shell from within the program. In order to
send or to recive any mail you have to exit the program and and go into the
program BM. (Beadales Mailer).
Fortunatly G1VTM has found a way of getting round this problem .
If you Telnet yourself you are connected to the mailbox (your own) and you
can send mail to other stations using normal mailbox commands.
You will also recieve any mail automaticaly as soon as you telnet yourself.
If you give yourself permissin (127) in the Ftpusers list you can them move
around easily about the disk using cli type commands.
If you have a program such as Diskmaster you can run this as a background
task this makes inspection of files much easier without leaving the program.
Another usefull program is AZ which is a public domain text editor which
runs quite happily alongside Diskmaster(you can access az from if you change
the box [CMD] to [AZ] and have the program AZ in your route directory.
To get Diskmaster and other such programs to run simply include the line
RUN Diskmaster
in your startup-sequence and it will run as a background task.
As the Disk is (tcpip) the space for a program such as Diskmaster is very
tight { you will have to Crunch some of the files with a prgram such as
power Packer.)
If you have 2 disk drives (which seems to be esential after a few days of
swapping disks) you can put a Utility Program such as Diskmaster
on the disk in df1: and include the path to it in your startup sequence or
simply put the Commands...
CD df1:
Run Diskmaster
cd df0:
This will run Diskmaster and then change back to df0: to run the tcpip
program.
IP ADDRESS ..................
The information on how to obtain an IP ADDRESS is on the Documents Disk.
You can run the program without the address but you have to create a
unregistered address for your local area.
There are examples of such addresses in the Hosts.Net files.
Contact your local tcpip users ask them about a TEMPORY IP ADDRESS this
will keep you in harmony with local users.
